Re-Modeling

Brian and I have been venturing into the new world of home remodeling! It has been fun for the most part, though I think that the kids are a little sick of going to the Home Depot! Our first project was our basement- we have a room that was billed as a "Garden Room" when we moved in. I am not sure what that means, but it was painted pink and had two layers of linoleum. There are also sliding doors out to the back yard. Through the garden room is Brian's work room. We decided that this would be a great arts and crafts space, both for me and the kids. The to-do list for the room was: remove linoleum, tile floor, paint walls, put in cabinets and counter tops.

Doing the demo, we found: the aforementioned two layers of linoleum (which were glued down with so much glue that there were parts that weren't dry. And the house is like 30 years old) The fact that the double doors to the workroom were held up by TRIM! Nothing else. The doorframe fell out when we removed the trim. The trim (on the wall, not the stuff holding up the door) was nailed in using framing nails, and was ruined when we took it out.

What I learned: laying tile is actually pretty fun. And not too hard! Always count on needing to use two coats of paint. Once you get the majority of the work done, it might be months before you find the time to get the details finished... like putting up the new trim (which still isn't finished!)

Of course, if addition to not having the trim finished yet, I also haven't had time to take pictures of the completed project. The counters and cabinets are in now, and doors have been painted and put back on. Trim is still not yet completed- who knows when that will occur, as we have already moved on and actually FINISHED our next project- the half bath re-do!
