Shawnee Mission Park

(Part One)
My intent is for this to be the first in a series of posts about the playgrounds in the area where we live. I have done multiple web searches, and can rarely find reviews and pictures of playgrounds. Being a slightly OCD mom, I would love some sort of resource where I can find a new park and tell whether my kids will like it before we go.
My first review is of one of the playgrounds (there are 3) in the very large Shawnee Mission Park. This is one of the largest parks in the Johnson County area, and has a dog park, a swimming beach, hike, bike, and equestrian trails, as well as numerous shelters and Theater in the Park.
This particular playground is located by shelter 10, about halfway between the Ridgeview and 79th St entrances. This has the potential to be a great little playground, but when we went, the big slide was broken. I really hope they fix it, as the play structure is unique and the slide is one of the biggest I have seen in modern playgrounds. Also, because it is in Shawnee Mission Park, this playground is a great one since there are also so many trails around, making for an all-day outing if you would like. There are picnic areas, restrooms, and lots of shade. The path is paved, and good for biking as well. There is only one bench at the actual playground, but there is also a short wall that provides some seating.
If this playground would be repaired, it would be one that we would frequent, as there are no swings (my kids get distracted by swings, and I would rather they run and play than have to push them on the swings) and it is pretty close to the house.
